The 5 speed and 10 speed Raleigh Choppers was mainly made for the America market, the main reason was cost and Raleigh didn't think the English were ready for such bike's, keep it simple hey, 3 speed only for us English folk.

Raleigh knew America would be the best market place for the 5 & 10 speeds bikes but you could get a 5 or 10 Speed in England when there was a docking strike in the early 70's rather than leave the bike's at the dock side, put them in the Raleigh UK dealers shops whilst the strike was on.
